Information on shipping a casket

In order to ship a casket to Romania , the Consulate General of Romania will issue a Romanian death Certificate and Mortuary Passport.

In order to be able to issue these documents, we require:

  • Duplicate of the U.S. Death Certificate certified with the Hague Apostille by the competent Secretary of State, in accordance with Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents;
  • Translation into Romanian of the Death certificate, certified with the Hague Apostille by the competent secretary of state, in accordance with Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents
  • 1 copy of a confirmation “to whom it may concern” that the deceased did not suffer from any contagious diseases and that there were no communicable diseases active at the time of his or her death;
  • 1 copy of the embalming affidavit, 1 copy of burial transit permit,
  • 1 copy of the “declaration of death” (including the declaration of possessing the place of final disposition);
  • an identity document of the deceased in the original (Romanian passport or national passport);
  • copy of Police Report (if needed in case of death caused by accident or a crime).
